Artisan Roast's branch in the West End of Glasgow differs markedly from its home on Edinburgh's Broughton Street. Where its original incarnation is a small, relaxed nook, the Gibson Street shop is more attuned to the comings and goings of a city, and all the better for it. 

Everything that's good about Artisan Roast remains here. Their range of coffee is enviable, and available to buy as well as drink in store — sweet caramelly Nicaraguan, sharp fruity Kenyan, as well as one of the best artisanal decafs on the market, proving that you can produce a decaffeinated coffee without compromising on flavour. The layout of Gibson Street offers a lot more space for the team to play in — the brew bar, slinging V60, Aeropress and Chemex — is neatly tucked behind an ornate wooden arch, while the counter has enough room for a few different grinders, as well as more space for food prep. 

Really though, it's further inside the cafe that sparkles. The inviting, front-room vibe has rarely been done as well as it is here — a soft-lit mezzanine offers plenty of seating, coffee sacks line the walls, the whole place feels like it's been here years. Much of Scotland's independent coffee scene can be traced back to Artisan Roast's pioneering, and it's clear that they're still focused on leading the way.
