Editor's Review

The arrivals of Barber & Parlour and its sister cafe Hubbard & Bell are a mark of progress in the growth of London's specialty coffee movement. Both cafes, integrated into spaces dedicated to informal luxury and relaxation, are operating at the top end of the market. Speciality coffee hunters will be reassured by famliar faces behind the coffee bar in both locations and won't be disappointed by the coffee.

Barber & Parlour describes itself as an 'all-day hangout', which is about right - this may be one of the easiest venues in London to unwind. The lower level is home to the Electric Cinema Shoreditch, an intimate spot to catch a flick with a drink. Further floors are dedicated to hair and nails - Vogue describes the beauty services to be of 'astonishingly high value' - I haven't a clue. Our interest is on the main floor where coffee comes first.

The espresso machine sits above the stairs as you enter the building. A quality guest espresso is in the hopper along with a filter roasted by Origin. You can't go wrong.

If you've sorted out a lifestyle which involves all-day hangouts, then this will be your new home. The rest of us can order ourselves a coffee and pretend.
