Chatsworth Road has long been a coffee destination and the opening of Bernstein’s has greatly increased its draw. It does so much, so well. Ben Murtagh is well known for being the man behind Black Box and here he takes charge behind the stylish bar, making superb espresso on the Victoria Arduino lever machine Gwilym Davies earned as a prize for winning the 2009 World Barista Championship. It’s not just about the coffee, there are craft beers and sodas on tap, including sodas from Square Root and cocktails too.

Food is good enough that it would draw visitors from across the city, even without the bar offer. Adam Bernstein (of What the Dickens fame) has created an ever evolving menu based around classic Jewish food including family recipes. This is a bar that has the potential to make your day – the hospitality, the food, the drink…everything combines to make this a great place. Many of Bernstein’s suppliers are friends – Square Root, Wildes cheeses, local pickles, amazing bagels and Hackney Wild bread from 25 Bakehouse.
