Cafe Amado

126 Acre Ln, Brixton, London SW2 5RJ, UK

Editor's Review

Hiding behind Brixton’s Solon Road bus stop (Stop F), Café Amado seems at first glance like a regular, unassuming greasy spoon. But a red and yellow fresco on one wall, and a Miro print hanging on the other, hints at a Spanish twist and a closer look in the counter confirms it. The food menu includes the expected dishes – Tortillas, Patatas Bravas, Churros – but also some of the lesser known delicacies: Ternera (shredded slow-cooked beef in a special sauce), Albondigas (meatballs on Spanish chips) or the Spanish Desayuno (breakfast) for veggies and non-veggies alike.

Their coffee is provided by East London’s small roastery The Roasting Shed and although they serve the standard coffees, while you’re here why not go for something suitably Spanish – try the equal parts caffeine and sugar rush, the Café Bombon: half espresso, half condensed milk. Amado is a refreshing niche with its priorities straight; unpretentious, friendly and authentic.
