Cafe De Leche
5000 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042, USA
Originally a Stumptown-serviced account, along with being one of the O.G. specialty cafés in Los Angeles, York Boulevard's Cafe de Leche has since spread its wings into the world of roasting, providing beans for a set of both classic and seasonal specialty beverages for the booming Highland Park community.
Since 2008, Cafe de Leche has kept it simple, friendly, and spacious for its varied clientele of Occidental students, parents with newborns, and the hipster set. Though they have a second Altadena location, Cafe de Leche's original HLP spot keeps the roaster on display in the back, sacks of green beans keeping a wall between the café space and the roastery. The wallpaper behind the bar proudly bears the cityscape of Highland Park; Sillouhettes of pink, rolling mountains and houses accurately depict the café's surroundings.
In addition to a classic espresso menu, Cafe de Leche's Hispanic influence in both neighborhood and ownership (the wife of this co-ownership hails from Nicaragua) leaks into their specialty beverages, with sweet options like horchata con espresso and a yerba mate latte being among the many. Complete with a window of community-oriented ads and event space, this corner location solidifies itself as a Highland Park staple for the neighborhood and beyond.
