Cafe Miami

24 Lower Clapton Rd, Hackney, E5 0PD

Editor's Review

Miami Vice it’s not! This airy café is a part of the Strand Building (which would not look out of place in its namesake, Napier, NZ or any other art deco location of note).

Offering more than the usual brunches and lunches, the menu includes avocado & grilled halloumi with sweet chill jam on seeded rye, American waffles with bacon & blueberries, pancakes with forest fruit compote and crème fraiche, fish finger tacos and to top that off they’re using Workshop coffee on a vintage Faema E61. This classic machine fits beautifully with the retro-tropical feel to this Hackney establishment. Most of the food could be described as vegetarian with meat added on top, so everything is available in a vegetarian version - like gluten free banana & oat pancakes with honey and cinnamon.

The pastel décor gives the place a feeling of lightness and would not be out of place in fashion shoot. So put on your Italian sports coat jackets with a tee shirt and push up the sleeves and you can just imagine you're in a sunny Miami for a while.
