Compass Coffee is on the path to D.C. domination. The founders of this proudly local company that roasts out of its 7th St. NW historic Shaw location, first got into coffee as tired Marines in Afghanistan who needed fuel on the regular. Years later, Compass now has a whopping seven locations throughout the Capitol, all marked by modern funky interiors and its equally fun logo "Made in DC" stamped on the shape of the District.

Compass gives you tons of options, whether it be deli-style grab-and-go snacks or an array of insanely sweet cold brews—this is probably the only company you'll be able to get a cherry blossom-flavored buzz from. If a sweet drink isn't your style, take a chance with three of Compass's signature blends on drip (geographically themed with names like Meridian and Waypoint), a café classic off the Modbar, or a tea hand-sourced by Compass themselves.

This space is one of the smaller of the franchise, tucked in Downtown as a grab-and-go kind of spot for business folks in need of a quick fix. While menu options at all cafés are fixed, your best bet for lounging would be just around the corner at their 17th Street NW location.
