If the name Lagom rings a bell, it may be because the word was pushed as a lifestyle trend a couple years ago, post Hygge. Essentially it means “not too much, not too little”, a fancy way of describing contentment. Anyway, that fad didn’t catch on, but this cafe will, no doubt.

New to the southside of town, Lagom is a great addition. It’s kitchen stretches right back into the cafe, so you feel like you’re in good hands as soon as you get in. There’s plenty of cookbooks stacked up next to shelves of cakes and big meringues (help yourself) too, so you can leaf through.

Lagom’s menu is definitely Scandi inspired - open sandwiches and good brunch options – however it’s their Bialys that really sing out. Essentially it’s a bagel, but one where the hole is filled with onion chutney (I know, why don’t we just do that with all bagels?). Everything is baked in house too, with many Ottolenghi recipes given good treatment. Word will get out about this place, make sure you’re ahead of the curve.
