PICT Coffee

75 Perth Rd, Dundee DD1 4HY, UK

Editor's Review

Perth Road in Dundee's West End caters almost exclusively to the nearby Dundee University, and so has a quiet, villagey feel — there's record shops, book shops, independent bars and cafes, and new on the scene, having set up in early 2017, is Pict Coffee.

Pict is a quaint, unassuming cafe, and possibly from the outside you wouldn't expect it to have as good a coffee game as it does. However, as soon as you enter, and clock the beans of well known independent roasterys for sale, then you know you're in the right place. Edinburgh's Machina Espresso and Unorthodox Roasters, based out of Kinross, make up the espresso and batch brew offerings, and Pict have also been running cupping sessions for anyone keen to learn more about good coffee. Cakes and traybakes come from Bristol based Cakesmiths, and include delicious treats like pumpkin loaf cake, and mulled apple crumble traycake.

Pict definitely caters to its studenty surroundings. The atmosphere is calm, there's enough plug sockets to go around and the wifi is good, so don't be surprised if it becomes a regular spot for undergrads on a deadline, or procrastinating phD students. If you're neither, worry not, you'll still find a lot to like about it.
