Saramago at Centre for Contemporary Arts

350 Sauchiehall St, Glasgow G2 3JD, UK

Editor's Review

The Centre for Contemporary Arts, a short walk away from both of Glasgow’s main travel hubs in Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street, is a vibrant and exciting testament to the city’s creative scene. Tucked inside the CCA is Saramago, a cafe and bar slinging Glasgow’s famous Dear Green roasts and serving excellent vegan lunches and small plates. Saramago has that nice museum cafe vibe, like the room could easily be home to any number of exhibitions. It also has the luxury of a late licence, one of few coffee shops in the city that does, making it perfect for emergency caffeine fixes if you’ve lost track of time.

The CCA is one of Glasgow’s real success stories. After taking over the location in 1992 from The Third Eye Centre – an avant garde arts space that hosted the likes of Allen Ginsberg – it has flourished and grown into a creative hotspot, boasting exhibition and performance spaces and a cinema. Saramago is just one more reason to drop in as you wander around Glasgow’s city centre.
