Singl-end

265 Renfrew St, Glasgow G3 6TT, UK

Editor's Review

Renfrew Street looks down on Sauchiehall Street in the centre of Glasgow, and teems with students from the nearby college of art, many of whom descend the stone steps to Singl-End - a fantastic bakehouse and brunch spot. Though not entirely meat-free, Singl-End are firmly focused on good ingredients, superfoods, and raw foods, which contributes to a really interesting, fresh menu. Their breakfast granola is the ideal combination of rich yoghurt, sharp fruits and warm, roasted oats and nuts.

When faced with Singl-End’s bounteous table of cakes, salads, pastries and breads, it’s very tempting to just blurt out “one of everything” and wait patiently in the corner until asked to leave. If you have more decorum, there’s enough tables for you to lounge a while without feeling guilty. - in fact, the cafe is deceptively large, with some nice outdoor seating too if you don’t mind facing a bracing Glasgow wind, which I’m told abates slightly in the summer. Southside Roasters, based down on Pollokshaws Road, provide the beans for their espresso based concoctions, and they have an alcohol licence in case you fancy a boozy weekend brunch. Or weekday brunch – who’s judging?
