Taylor St Baristas - Chancery Lane
26 Southampton Buildings, Chancery lane, London, WC2A 1PN26
Sometimes a new café just gets it right. This is one of those. There are so many delightful little touches here: excellent table service, clever design and lighting, a quiet car-free setting, attention to coffee detail and excellent food. Taylor Street now roast their own beans and there is even a little self-serve batch brew area here where you can taste samples of their filter coffees. Espresso from Union is also available.
Tucked away on a quiet road parallel to Chancery Lane, Taylor St has ample outdoor space, ideal for the summer, well away from through traffic. As you enter the café, you are met at the door and taken to a table in the bright, spacious interior (if you aren’t there for takeaway). Menus give very thorough information on the coffee and list the food and drink options (some innovative touches to the food here – there is a kitchen on site). The low intervention wine and craft beer selection is particularly impressive.
Taylor St made their name building up high volume, quality coffee sales – mostly in the city, mostly takeaway. Their Monument Gallery is a very different space – focussed on slow coffee – spotlighting single origin coffee characteristics in an armchair atmosphere. Chancery Lane is as different again – a sophisticated, clever space with some interesting design ideas from Laura Tolley. It’s open weekdays only but open later than most.
