The Cult Of Coffee

28 Esslemont Ave, Aberdeen AB25 1SN, UK

Editor's Review

You'd be forgiven for expecting somewhere literally called The Cult of Coffee to have a more severe vibe than this charming Aberdonian nook — baristas taking their sweet time over precise latte art at the expense of the customer feeling comfortable, that sort of thing. Thankfully, that is far from the case.

This slightly hidden cafe on the corner of Esslemont Avenue and Leadside Road's titular cultishness is really just a reference to where their priorities lie — namely, on the coffee itself. They work closely with Artisan Roast, and will be branching out to other suppliers too, slinging espresso based coffees, as well as slow pours from their neatly designed brew-bar. They'll talk you through what you want, grind your own beans for you, and have a few different varieties on sale, as they aim to spread the gospel of good coffee throughout The Granite City.

There is a nice sense of space to The Cult of Coffee, not least because it's corner location allows it to become something of a suntrap around closing time. The counter is blocked by shelves on one side, allowing it to feel more a part of the cafe, and the white tiles are set off by brightly coloured walls, drawing that light in more. Lunch options are minimal here, with just cakes and scones offered in addition to your brew, but their quality more than matches that of the coffee.
