Uncommon Ground Coffee Roastery
10-12 Royal Arcade, Cardiff CF10 1AE, UK
Editor's Review
Uncommon Ground feels much different to the many other coffee shops in Cardiff. It's got a darker interior and feels a little more like a bar than a café – think what might happen if Urban Outfitters opened a coffee place. This isn't a bad thing; it just means it will suit some people more. There's a mix of exposed brick, darkly painted walls, and some amazing copper kettles turned in to lights. The coffee bar is large and boasts an impressive light up sign.
The coffee is good and the milk is steamed and poured to a good standard. Uncommon Ground's house blend is a mix of beans from Brazil (50%), Colombia (30%) and Sumatra Indonesia (20%). It's a coffee that a lot of people will like. House roasts and guest roasts are all roasted by the Uncommon Ground team.
Owned by two brothers, there has clearly been a lot of thought and care taken over Uncommon Ground; it's in an excellent location – Royal Arcade – and has some impressive features inside. There's also a good amount of space inside so you can enjoy your coffee without feeling cramped inside. The staff are pleasant and there's enough on hand to ensure that you won't be waiting a long time for your coffee – this always makes a good experience even better.
