How long has the Elephant and Castle waited for a decent coffeeshop? Finally, Roberto and Simone turn up, having run their Fulham roastery café Chairs and Coffee since 2013, and open this delightful little coffeeshop close to the South Bank University campus. The coffee is taken seriously and you can get a decent espresso or batch brew filter here and take one of the few seats outside or sit outside by St George’s roundabout. There’s a dedicated cycle rack outside too.

You can choose from breakfast options and cakes and sandwiches and 80 Stone’s own roasted coffee for sale. It’s a simple, friendly set-up with quirky touches such as Simone and Roberto’s signature – wooden chairs strapped to the ceiling. Owners Simone Guerini Rocco and Roberto d’Alessandro met in London in 2006, working together in a restaurant. Roberto grew up in a coffee shop in Verona and Simone has worked in coffee roasting, training and engineering. In 2008, Roberto temporarily returned to Verona and Simone moved to Central America, where he worked in a coffee exporting company and judged barista competitions in Guatemala and El Salvador. He also secured 2nd place at the Italian coffee cupping competition in 2012. Simone roasts on a 5kg 1960 Italian F.I.M.T. roaster over in Fulham.
