All Are Welcome
190 High St, Northcote VIC 3070, Australia
Editor's Review
That smell of freshly baked bread and pastries coupled with brewed coffee has to be one of the most pleasant clouds of aroma to stroll into. All Are Welcome takes its name from what used to be a church and Christian reading room with the adorning sign of its name sake placquaded along the wall. There remain remnants of the old – some original wall tiles, converted church pews and rotating quoted signage, all tactfully done, keeping some of its original character and nostalgic charm.
The open bakery gives a great insight into the baking processes and produce some outstanding sourdoughs and rye breads ready to be picked form the shelves, just to name a couple. The collaboration with the guys at Everyday Coffee mean you also get one of Melbourne’s finer roasters and brewers running espresso and their famous filter to go along with the numerous bakehouse options. There's minimal seating inside but you can sit outside in the old reading room, now designed with levelled seating and benches in a cleverly utilised space under partial shelter. It all works well with the whole concept. On the shelves you’ll also find house-made pickles, jams, chutney and many other condiments and foods, including locally sourced cheeses. It’s a great stop – All Are Welcome and all should make the trip.
