Café Grumpy — Nolita
177 Mott St, New York, NY 10012, USA
Editor's Review
Tucked away on a relatively quiet stretch of Mott Street in the oh-so-stylish downtown Nolita district, this Grumpy outpost has a space as enjoyable as their coffee. Subway-tiled floors, ancient exposed brick walls, and lots of light give this place a classic New York look. But there is never any New York attitude at Grumpy, whose baristas do not live up to the brand's name; they usually have a smile here, they know their coffee, and it's a great spot for a small respite in the midst of a downtown shopping spree or just a busy afternoon in the city.
Grumpy's signature brews, including seasonal specialties like a maple spice latte, served hot or over ice, are complemented by a full selection of hot and iced teas. You can also peruse a limited but well-thought-out pastry case stocked with options from Good Batch, Colson, and a few other local favorites. Opened in summer of 2016 in the historic Brewster Carriage House, this is a classic NYC spot, despite the fairly recent vintage.
