Darling Coffee
4961 Broadway, NY, NY 10034
Editor's Review
Located in the Inwood neighborhood on the northernmost tip of Manhattan, just blocks from lovely Inwood Hill Park, Darling brings a little downtown cafe flavor to this somewhat remote uptown area of New York City. They get deliveries of beans regularly from Plowshares roaster in the Ramapo Valley, and the baristas at Darling craft excellent espresso drinks, pour-over, and cold brew. They also feature lots of homemade pastries, as well as croissant from Balthazar, and gluten-free options from Sans Bakery. And though there is not a made-to-order lunch counter here, Darling does have a lot of good options; they offer several house-premade sandwiches in the cold case, salads, soups and stews, as well as tamales served hot from the local Tortilleria Nixtamal. It’s a large, sunny and welcoming space with plenty of room to linger, but computers are only allowed at the long family tables in the back, and there's no WiFi.
Though this area is not on most people’s must-visit spots in the city, it’s a lovely and diverse neighborhood, and with the A train stopping right on the corner and the 1 train just a few blocks away, more and more people are commuting to Manhattan from around here, and for sure the biggest rush at Darling is from an early morning crowd grabbing something for the long ride downtown.
