Georges espressobar
Londenstraat 27, 2018 Antwerpen, Belgium
Editor's Review
George, or the person you think is “The" George, though the shop is actually named after his grandfather, has a clear and quiet mastery of coffee. The coffee shop is wonderfully fitted out with retro-meets-rustic-meets-concrete floor and the small bar is brimming with coffee or things to make coffee with.
Being one of the most Northerly specialty coffee shops in the city, the coffee drinkers here seem to be almost entirely local. This chunk of the city is (was?) under serious redevelopment with an under-development tram line through the middle of it but definitely no trams as yet. Beyond the docks and berthings, there’s not much that would bring you to this area here unless you like coffee…
…because this may well be the best coffee in the city; certainly the espresso topped the charts for our visit. White Label Coffee (Amsterdam) extracted with exceptional skill on a Linea Classic is enough to make the short detour to George’s well worth it.
In a city thriving with specialty coffee shops it’s thrilling to find a small, owner operated café serving some of the best coffee this visitor has ever tasted.
Cash only, no decaf.
