Kaffe 1668 (North)

401 Greenwich Street New York, NY 10013

Editor's Review

A Scandinavian-inspired cafe (whose owner hails from Sweden), this Kaffe 1668  takes "kaffe" from the Swedish word for "coffee" and 1668 for the year said caffeinated beverage was first introduced to the country. If it weren't for the spectacular array of Spectrum coffees available on pour-over, you'd likely be lulled to sleep by the café’s dreamy, dimly lit interiors, romantic votive candles, and fluffy Serta-mascot-like sheep lining the shelves from left and right, seemingly suggesting you count them on an afternoon power nap. But this TriBeCa gem receives a fair amount of foot traffic on the regular from business crowds, so you might have to nap on the nearby waterfront.

Kaffe 1668 functions as much as a restaurant as it does a coffee bar, whose stacked lunch menu of savory toasts, paninis, and housemade pastries make this one-stop shop to fill up and power up. Grab-and-go options include a fridge packed with chia puddings and juices also made in house. Not only will you find your standard, buttery croissant here, but also sweet delights with unique ingredients – try a raw power ball or an oatmeal honey raisin cookie. Non-dairy options include oat, soy, almond, and coconut.
