Millfields Coffee
145 Chatsworth Road, E5 0LA
Editor's Review
At the north end of Chatsworth Road lies Millfields Park, home to several of Hackney’s sports facilities. Once it was home to the mighty Clapton Orient who moved to Leyton in 1937 and changed their name. It’s a residential area with great community feel. Alex MacIntyre has opened Millfields here on the side previously occupied by Cooper and Wolf. Alex’s other cafes in Hoxton, Old Street and Islington have all been popular, but this just might be the best.
With its generously sized kitchen and in-house chef, Millfields is as much about casual all day dining as it is about coffee. The food offer is unique is as unique as it is flavoursome – we’d recommended the Turkish eggs – although the kitchen is currently closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Coffee-wise, the Kees van der Westen Speedsters you might remember from Alex’s Hoxton café are back in use for espresso using Modern Standard beans, with batch brew filter also available. We’d also recommend the cinnamon and cardamon buns from Charles Artisan Bread on Lower Clapton Road. There are plans to open in the evenings soon.
