Pritchard + Ure
2 Barker Dr, St Pancras Way, NW1 0JW
All over the country, garden centres have cafes. But Pritchard + Ure is possibly the first speciality coffeeshop in a garden centre. That said, Camden Garden Centre has always been different, situated just off the Regents Canal and set up in 1982 as a charity and has long been our local Camden source for plants and gardening gear. It functions as a self-financing training and employment project for disadvantaged people in the local area.
The garden centre asked Andrea Massaro, a verteran of the Cambridge coffee scene to run the cafe and he uses his extensive food and coffee background to fine tune the offer at Pritchard + Ure. The coffeeshop, named after two members of the charity’s board aims to offer a quality, ethical and value for money food and coffee experience led by exceptional service. Although still a relatively undiscovered gem, they do attract a wide cross section of clientele and are certainly inclusive in outlook and friendly in welcome.
Coffee is from Workshop and well made; the two group lever is worth a visit itself to see in action. Other notable suppliers include Postcard Teas, Square Root Soda, Coco Chocolatier and Victoria Yum cakes. Food is taken very seriously, especially given Andrea’s background in ethical food and brunches offer tasty, unfussy natural food sourced from quality local suppliers. Pritchard + Ure have had events in the evening too, including a coffee talk, a beer festival and a volunteering fair among others. The space is available for hire.
Behind the scenes, this cafe focuses on ethical practice in a number of ways such as minimising food waste, ethical staff management, limiting power usage and recycling and re-using: approaches that together with their fine food and coffee make Pritchard + Ure a special place deserving your attention.
