Sam James Coffee Bar - Harbord
297 Harbord St, Toronto, ON M6G 1G7, Canada
Harbord was the first location of Sam James Coffee Bar, opened back in 2009 as the wave of specialty coffee had just begun to crash upon Toronto's shores. Nowadays, many locals consider this place to be part of the heart and soul of the neighbourhood. In an area that used to be an underwhelming city block lacking any real draw now hosts a vibrant street filled with thriving entrepreneurs.
This location is truly the personification of the Sam James brand. Every design feature in the café is recognisable at Sam's other locations, and it's clear to even a casual fan of the company that this is where it all started. The black and white artwork that covers an entire wall of the room is forever indicative of Sam James. And the metal mesh bar, bench seating and minimalistic approach are consistent themes across all five of their locations.
Cut Coffee, the roasting brand owned and operated by Sam James, is served and sold here along with retail items like clothing and coffee mugs. And since this is a special location, you'll find merchandise exclusive to the Harbord shop here, too.
Being sandwiched between Bloor Street and College Street means that Harbord is happily separated from the beaten path. A visit here will allow the ability to experience one of Toronto’s best coffee companies in its natural habitat.
