Stumptown Coffee Roasters
212b Pacific St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, USA
Editor's Review
Stumptown's first formal entrée into Brooklyn (never mind the brief tenure of its lovely Red Hook tasting room, for which we pour out a cold brew in mourning) opened in late summer 2018 tucked just off of busy Court Street on a quiet stretch of Pacific. And it was worth the wait: this spacious, gracious café from the well-known national roaster more than stands out in a landscape of NYC's tiny boîtes, instead opening from a grand semi-enclosed patio space (very reminiscent of the iconic patio at Intelligentsia Sunset Junction) into room upon room of coffee for those operating at virtually any speed.
While the front patio serves dogs and the al fresco set, the main room hosts a bustling coffee bar (with food selections like breakfast burritos and rice bowls, too) along with several standing bars for those preferring a European style sip-and-dash. Beyond a small alcove for condiments and seltzer lies a spacious room for those taking their coffee time a bit more leisurely—laptop-users jockey for position with the stroller set, and there are not one but two public restrooms, replete with French lessons playing quietly overhead. Is this peak Brooklyn café life?
