Swallow Cafe (Atlantic)
156 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11201
Editor's Review
This iteration of the mini-Swallow chain is a quality cafe with the added bonus of being a great restaurant too, in a neighborhood surprisingly short on options of this sort. They serve Counter Culture here, and the espresso and filter brew is all well made and delicious. Enjoy your beverages either sitting at one of their window tables, for the people watching, or up in the cool mezzanine seats – or take it on the run as you cruise the Atlantic Avenue scene.
And the food is worth a trip as well, with oatmeal, granola and egg dishes at breakfast, plus various Middle Eastern inspired toasts, perhaps a tribute to the beloved Tripoli Restaurant that occupied this great space previously. They also feature original sandwich combinations named after all of your favorite Brooklyn neighborhoods – try the Park Slope, with smoked salmon, caper cream cheese, pickled onion, cucumber and tomato, served on a baguette, rather than on the expected bagel. Or check out one of their lovely soups or salads. But really, despite all the good food, Swallow is a coffee bar, so order a cortado, or one of their various pour-over options, and enjoy!
