East Dulwich’s Tart is the second of its kind, following in the footsteps of the Clapham café. The food (mostly savoury tarts, but with other options, such as an array of wholesome salads) and drink (the coffee is supplied by Brixton roasters Volcano, and loose leaf teas come from Good & Proper Tea Co.) is the same, but the overall feel is pretty different.

The building itself is impressive, with high ceilings and walls covered in glazed tiles and thistle motifs around archways – very Victorian. There is outdoor seating at the front, but the tables in the main area are mostly for two, so not ideal for big groups. Luckily, there is a light and leafy conservatory at the back, but even that fills up pretty quickly and, since opening in October 2017, it’s bustling even on weekdays – surely a good sign.
