The Elk
128 Charles St, New York, NY 10014
Editor's Review
A super-charming West Village gem, the Elk is probably exactly what you imagined a cozy, stylish NYC café could be when you were killing time in your hometown donut shop as a teenager. It's a small, awkwardly-shaped room that is beautifully put together and always full of interesting and eclectic locals of every age and demographic.
Parlor coffees join fresh breakfast and lunch options (served until 4pm), and teas from upstate blender Harney and Sons. House granola, graperfuit brulée (yum!), various toasts and the extravagantly delicious pulled jalapeno chicken and eggs graced a recent breakfast menu. Lunch includes rice and soba bowls, grilled cheese, tuna melt, and of course a kale salad. And if you're in the market for a tote bag or scented candle or artisan lotion while you're here, you're in luck, as a small and stylish retail wall proffers everything from Chemex gear to micro-local fashion mags and hairspray. Inexplicably, the small space also offers WiFi, electrical outlets, and a bathroom.
Pull up a hexagon-shaped table in this wedge-shaped oasis and live out your Instagrammable coffee dream.
