The Potter's House
1658 Columbia Rd NW, Washington, DC 20009, USA
Editor's Review
The Potter's House is a 501c3 non-profit that has deep, historic roots tracing back to its loosely religious affiliations back in 1960. Thanks to the constantly changing demographic of the Adams Morgan neighborhood, the café has since undergone several identities throughout the decades, from serving as a meeting space during the Civil Rights Era riots to its now social justice-forward café/bookstore front.
After a major renovation in 2015, The Potter's House currently operates as a community space, café, and bookstore that curates a wide variety of left-leaning material. Books are divided between a mix of cultural studies, social movements, ethnic cooking and wellness material, and the community space produces a regular calendar of both one-off and recurring events weekly.
Counter Culture supplies a no-frills menu of simple espresso and drip beverages, and the cafe cooks a mix of its own in-house goods. Essentially, "Unity in Community" is the motto here. The Potter's House provides a spacious, welcoming atmosphere that encourages members of all walks, races, and backgrounds to come together and talk.
