Tinker Northcote
235 High St, Northcote VIC 3070, Australia
Editor's Review
The Northcote postcode has recently become a go-to for those looking to escape the mainstream and crowded inner suburbs. One of the originals to bring specialty to the area in both food and coffee, Tinker Northcote have established themselves on the High St.
The venue is a modern fitting looking out onto a vintage set – no filter's needed, unless it’s of the coffee sort. The High Street in Northcote has a nostalgic look about it as one of Melbourne's first bouroughs, and the row of boutique stores that run along it feature some great neighbours for both day and evening occasions. The all-white theme allows natural light bounce around the venue and flows in, contrasting the blacks of the furniture. Vertical lights along the exposed brick are a nice touch, sectioning and breaking the wall as a feature – it’s a clever design trick and one that adds to the plentiful natural light flowing in through the all glass facade. The bar runs long, turning into a communal table and placement of seating in the cafe allow for views outside regardless of position. A progressive food menu, delicious coffee to the fore, and local vibes will have you travelling back.
