Van Leeuwen Store — Bergen Street
81 Bergen St, Brooklyn, NY 11217
Editor's Review
Birthed in the spring of 2008 out of a yellow truck, NYC's Van Leeuwen has since expanded to become a city staple for artisanal ice cream, with several trucks and storefronts throughout New York and now Los Angeles. Classic and vegan flavors like Earl Grey tea, salted caramel and seasonal specials are made from scratch with simple, fresh ingredients in Greenpoint.
This sunny space is one of the neighborhood's prettiest, which sits at the top of Smith Street. Leafy wallpaper and ample lighting in this compliment the company's signature stylistic tile flooring, and a storefront made entirely of glass allows additional natural sunlight to burst through its doors. A playful environment, expect this popular ice cream shop, like most of its locations, to be vibrant with a neverending line and indie pop hits blasting from the speakers. It may not be a study spot, but it's definitely a place to satisfy a sweet tooth and hang out with friends.
Coffees are sourced from the Brooklyn-based Toby's Estate, which are used to make standard espresso-milk drinks and special treats like the New Mexican Mocha and matcha lattes. Non-dairy options include almond and soy.
