The World AeroPress Championships: Milo Gil

Milo Gil, the Dutch AeroPress Champion, is next up to answer our competitor questions for the Worlds; he'll be competing on the 17th November. Milo works in specialty coffe but has most recently started a business specialising in fermented soda. You can follow his journey on instagram: @milo.gil

Why did you choose to enter the AeroPress Championship?

The fact that all competitors are given the same quality of coffee. This truly does showcase the differences between each person’s brew. Transparent and fair.

What’s your favourite way to make coffee (other than AeroPress of course!)?

Brewing coffee with the cupping method. It’s easy to replicate and also a viable way to produce a tasty cup.

What led you to using the AeroPress?

The AeroPress is great to produce a cup that is both thick in structure and sweet in flavour, without losing too much of its acidity.

Which grinder will you use for the competition and why?

The Helor 101. The moving parts are maintained due to it’s unibody design. This makes a concentricity error less likely. Also the hand mill format makes it able to bring anywhere I go!

How did you get in to the coffee industry?

The first time I had an incredible cup of coffee. This coffee was served by the people of Scandinavian Embassy in Amsterdam. A coffee from Kenya, roasted by La Cabra. Right then and there I knew I wanted to let others experience the same quality of coffee I tasted that day.

What are you most excited about in coffee?

It’s crazy to think that the coffee industry is just starting to get bigger and better. By sharing information and rapidly increasing techniques I can’t wait to drink the coffee of the future. This must taste like magic.
