Sustainability in Coffee

As with every aspect of our lives, there is an expenditure of energy throughout the supply chain to create each cup of coffee. This topic is very important across everything we consume.

Brazil, a tropical paradise; has had to endure unseasonable frost over the last few months due to climate change that has negatively affected the world’s largest coffee-exporting country by causing long-term damage to the crops.

Coffee roasters and consumers want to know where their coffee has come from. This doesn’t just mean the country or region is was grown but also who produced it, who picked and processed it, and what the farm looks like; who traded it and made money from the sales along the way before it reached our cup. 

We spoke to Ana Luiza Pellicer whose family farm in Monte Santo De Minas in Brazil has adopted a unique approach to traceability. Mió Farm (which literally translates into ‘my dearest and most beloved farm') imports and stores their own coffee directly into the UK, allowing Ana, who lives in London, to sell directly to roasteries.
