The World AeroPress Championships: Salmaan Shaikh

Bahrain’s AeroPress Champion and business development manager for New York Coffee roastery (though it’s based in Bahrain), Salmaan Shaikh, is next up answering our questions for the World AeroPress Championship competitor. Follow his journey on instagram: @3abdarrasheed

Why did you choose to enter the AeroPress Championship?

I'm really passionate about coffee and especially manual brewing. Although, because of my demanding job, I had chosen not to participate, but my wife convinced me to do it!

What’s your favorite way to make coffee (other than AeroPress of course!)?

That's the Kalita Wave.

What led you to using the AeroPress?

I was fascinated by its versatility. When I first learned about how it applies the principles of filtration, immersion, and pressure, I was so excited! I remember brewing my first cup in January this year and its quality was like nothing I'd ever had before! (Thanks, Mr. Adler!)

Which grinder will you use for the competition and why?

The organisers have the Mahlkönig EK43 for us to use.

How did you get in to the coffee industry?

I was fortunate enough to land a job managing the roastery of the brand I currently work for. It’s the best! 

What are you most excited about in coffee?

Well I really appreciate that it's just as much an art as it is a science. The craft of coffee is just something that I resonate with in its entirety.
