Blue Bottle Coffee — Hayes Valley Kiosk

315 Linden St, San Francisco, CA 94102, USA

Editor's Review

This Hayes Valley kiosk has a special place in Blue Bottle’s history – it claims the title as the company's first permanent cafe location, after gaining a steady local following by selling coffee at the farmers markets in Oakland and at the SF Ferry Building. In 2005, the kiosk was built inside of a company friend’s garage in the middle of a then-sketchy, dead-end alley. Nowadays, Hayes Valley is a swanky neighborhood and Blue Bottle has cafes all around the Bay Area and beyond – including several booming shops in Japan.

Despite the neighborhood expansion, this is still a no-frills, walk-up cafe. The menu is pared down to basic espresso drinks and a rotating selection of pour-over coffee. Across the garage are public stone and metal benches where you can sip on their popular New Orleans iced coffee while people-watching. Blue Bottle may now be a major player with locations worldwide, but they still keep a Hayes Valley Espresso Blend on their menu as a nod to their flagship cafe’s neighborhood.
