Cult Espresso

104 Buccleuch St, Edinburgh EH8 9NG, UK

Editor's Review

Edinburgh is a small city that makes good use of the space. There’s a high concentration of things tucked away into little nooks, and as a result, it’s easy to walk past a great spot. Don’t walk past Cult Espresso.

Nestled down some steps at the south end of the otherwise inauspicious Buccleuch Street (pronounced “Bu-cloo”) Cult is deceptively spacious. Exposed brick, hanging light-bulbs, plants and books give the place a very cool, clean, serious vibe. The feeling of descending towards the counter feels a little intimidating at first, particularly if you’re dawdling, but the brevity of the menu both in terms of food and drink is very pleasing – you won’t get lost.

You can just about spot Cult from the much busier Clerk Street, which runs parallel to Buccleuch, but otherwise you might not have cause to go there. However, with the vibrant arts hub Summerhall not a five minute walk down the road, as well as the mid-town expanse of The Meadows right around the corner, it’s not too out of the way. The fact that it feels like it is, is really just a part of its charm.
