Kaffeine - Eastcastle Street

15 Eastcastle Street, W1T 3AY

Editor's Review

Since Peter Dore-Smith opened the original Kaffeine in Fitzrovia in 2009 it has earned a reputation for great hospitality and quality coffee and food. His second café continues the emphasis on hospitality, while also housing a state-of-the-art kitchen and a Victoria Arduino Black Eagle gravimetric espresso machine to ensure consistently excellent coffee.

It’s a bright, light space, set just behind Oxford Street. On entry the eye is drawn to the low copper bar and the superb display of playful food options sat just below a neon Kaffeine logo. Much thought and attention has gone into the ergonomic design of the bar to allow the staff to be fully focussed on the customers. A large area for orders and takeaways is surrounded by bespoke furniture – high tables with ‘concreate’ accents and walls of white tiles with copper highlights mirroring the bar.

Coffee is from Square Mile, of course. There is also fresh orange juice and teas from the Rare Tea Company. This is destined to be a mainstay of the Central London café scene, and it’s a delight to see the work that Peter and others have put in come to fruition in this delightful coffee shop. It’s well worth remembering Kaffeine are also rightly regarded for being the first London café to pay the London Living Wage. As if we needed another reason to support them!
