Urban Angel

121 Hanover St, Edinburgh EH2 1DJ, UK

Editor's Review

Part cafe, part restaurant, Urban Angel sits on the corner of Hanover and Queen Street in Edinburgh’s New Town offering up quality coffee, Intstagrammable brunches, and a wide range of light lunch options.

The cafe section of Urban Angel is small, with a more expansive restaurant in the back, but there’s a couple of tables and a few window seats, so you can hang out while waiting for a table. Urban Angel’s ethos is very much “local first”, with a lot of their produce sourced from Scottish farmers, meaning their menu changes seasonally. Upon first glance it may seem like Urban Angel’s main focus is on its food, but the coffee is cared about as much as the eating options – there’s a few guest roasts on offer, with tasting notes provided behind the counter.

If you’re an art lover and looking for a good base while you traverse Edinburgh’s galleries, then Urban Angel is well placed. The National Gallery of Scotland is at the bottom of Hanover Street, directly opposite the meeting with Princes Street, while the Scottish National Portrait Gallery is round the corner on Queen Street.
