Abacus
383 Chapel St, South Yarra VIC 3141, Australia
Editor's Review
It can often be difficult getting that seemingly perfect hospitality combination of daytime (cafe and food) and evening (drinks and dining), Abacus seem to do an impeccable job within the high ceiling, stylised venue. Right in the heart of one of Melbourne’s most sociable streets, Abacus focus on quality and consistency, sourcing predominantly through local produce suppliers found across the road in Prahan Market, if not made on premise.
On site, you'll find flour milled, bread and pastries baked, almond milk blended, honey extracted from hive on rooftop, just to name a few – they even smoke and cure meats. You’ll notice the beautiful, large wood fire oven up against the back wall upon which their creatively curated pizzas are cooked; it's what they're known for. That’s not to say the rest of the offering is anything but spectacular and detailed. The wine menu features an Australian and International cast with beer on tap rivalling some of Melbourne’s great bars. Spinning St Ali on the precision San Remo ensures great coffee is produced to complete your experience.
