Amano

Well placed, nestled amongst the designer boutiques, bars, and offices of Britomart; old buildings meet new architecture. Amano has floor to ceiling windows but a dark, tempting entrance. Entering into the café, it’s standing room only while well dressed customers wait for their takeaways.  

The counter stands in front of a wooden racked wall displaying an array of fresh artisan loaves which in turn gives a slatted view of the working bakery kitchen behind. The glass cabinet is stacked full of pastries and sandwiches to tempt you as you pay for your coffee. The barista holds court in the right hand corner, in front of the glass window, with pedestrians being his audience. Beside him a pyramid display of KeepCups difficult to ignore.

There is no coffee menu to be seen, but that doesn't seem to be a problem for anyone. We take a rare stool at the window in the room next door, their restaurant, a huge vaulted ceiling, industrial yet rustic looking space, maybe a nod to their Italian inspired fare. They have an elite selection of items for sale, delightful small gift bags of biscuits and meringues plus bottles of olive oil and Allpress Espresso coffee for home plunging.
