Amid Giants & Idols
59 Silver St, Lyme Regis DT7 3HR, UK
Editor's Review
Just up the hill from Lyme Regis’s seafront, town centre is Amid Giants and Idols. The shop’s mostly-glass storefront is adorned with the tag line ‘Coffee House & Micro-Roaster.’ Inside, the shop is gently worn, more a warm living room than a burnished speciality café. The space is softly lit, with local art on the walls and cushion-covered, comfortable furnishing all round. This aesthetic carries over to the service too. At the table, Steve (who owns the shop with his wife Elaine) was keen to explain the menu of the shop, which comprises three single origin hand brews and three espressos, including Idols’ house blend, Coast. Although they roast much of their own coffee, Idols also serves coffee from other roasters, most notably Exeter’s Crankhouse Coffee and Brazier Coffee Roasters in Wellington.
Food offerings of soups, sandwiches, toast and crumpets are all prepared on site. There is a well-curated selection of cakes and snacks, soft drinks and teas, not to mention a deep, syrupy Peruvian hot chocolate. Steve oversees the gathering, more a host than a server, dispensing choice pieces of coffee knowledge as he goes. Visit Idols for an uncharacteristically relaxed and charming speciality coffee experience.
