Andante Coffee Shop
Fredrikinkatu 20, 00120 Helsinki, Finland
Editor's Review
Originally a flower shop – established in 1990 – now serving some of the finest coffee in Helsinki.
Andante is large and light – exposed red brick, reclaimed wood, and retro furniture create a unique aesthetic. A beautiful old wood-working bench serves as a communal table and a 70’s television as a stand for the water station. Dotted around are a few interesting artefacts and pieces of furniture, some of which are for sale. A mirror extends the length of one of the walls, in front of it, rows of pot plants – also for sale – softly diffuse the light bouncing back into the space, generating a sense of calm.
Coffee is sourced from roasters all over Europe and the Nordics and is frequently rotated. Everything on the retail shelves is also brewed – normally 2-3 filter options and 1-2 different espressos are available.
Andante’s speciality? Hand brew. As the name suggests, everything happens at a moderately slow tempo – this philosophy permeates the café and the feeling is evident – there is no need to rush. Simply, kick back and enjoy this delightful environment.
