Association Coffee (Ludgate)
56 Ludgate Hill, St Pauls, EC4M 7AW
Editor's Review
Association’s second coffee shop near St Paul’s is a large space with simple minimalist styling. Cork covers the walls and ceramic sugar bowls sit on the tables. Carefully placed floral displays, subtle branding and some elegant tiling add to the feel. The impressive coffee equipment is set in front of a mirror, giving the illusion of even more space and allowing a window to the barista’s art.
That coffee equipment: two impossibly shiny Victoria Arduino Black Eagles, twin Mythos grinders, an EK43 and two ‘Splurties’. The first in London, a Splurty is a Marco SP9 single cup coffee brewer which emits a bluish glow as it dispenses water on the coffee to a pre-programmed pattern of timed pulses. It’s not just impressive looking gear. The coffee here (mostly from Workshop) is certainly worth a visit for the quality and you feel the standard of baristas is so high they’d equally wow you with a brew on an old Linea. But the theatre is part of the experience.
There are a range of tasty sandwiches and cakes too, of course. And a great bonus is the rail of newspapers and magazines to browse.
