Bakers & Roasters De Pijp
Eerste Jacob van Campenstraat 54, 1072 BH Amsterdam, Netherlands
Editor's Review
Once upon a time, a discerning diner in Amsterdam would have to search hard to find a delicious and affordable meal. Although the Netherlands was never known as a culinary powerhouse, all this is changing – and largely thanks to a new generation of energetic, crowd-pleasing pan-culturalists. Many of them expats or people with multinational backgrounds, these restaurateurs run venues where quality food and drink is as much a priority as customer service. Emblematic of this movement is Bakers & Roasters.
The self-described “New Zealand style café served with a heavy dose of Brazil” borrows generously from the two owners’ respective continents. The result: fresh, indulgent daytime dishes, served alongside perfectly-pulled double shots of espresso provided by Ozone Coffee Roasters.
Alas, Bakers & Roasters De Pijp does not take reservations and the line sometimes spills on to the sidewalk. Thankfully, there is a second location, close to Amsterdam’s Centraal Station.
