Bluestone Lane — Financial District
30 Broad Street, New York, NY 10004 (Enter on New Street)
Editor's Review
Influenced by the premium coffees and service-forward personalities of Melbourne, the Australian-inspired Bluestone Lane has several locations based on the East Coast (with near future plans to move West). Artfully erected in a former revolving door of this Art Deco building's New Street entrance, this space's small quarters functions as an on-the-go pit stop for a variety of coffee and wellness drinks.
While the majority of this cafe's clientele seem to be employees of this 40-story building, Aussies themselves will also roll through for flat whites and iced long blacks. Highlights of the menu include an array of open-faced toasts and brekkies. Turmeric, sweet potato, and hummus toast packs a punch, and almond oatmeal with shredded coconut and dried cranberries keep it extra healthy. Non-caffeine drinkers are also welcome at Bluestone Lane thanks to their selection of wellness drinks – almond milk golden lattes and beet lattes are here to stay. For other non-dairy alternatives, go for soy milk.
For an extra special sweet treat apart from their stacked espresso menu of both traditional and Australian-style beverages, "Aussie-style" iced lattes and iced chocolates ditch the milk for creamy ice cream scoops. Pastries and breads are from Balthazar, and Husk helps out the gluten-free visitors with another selection of pastries, like trademark Aussie lamingtons. If you're coming for food, be sure to arrive early – service ends an hour before closing.
