Café Blá
Lilienstraße 34, 81669 München, Germany
Editor's Review
Café Blá owner Stephanie Bjarnason is half Icelandic, and her lovely, bright, Nordic-infused venue serves up great coffee with the sort of happy, engaged style you'd expect with such a background. There are waffles and cakes, along with some very healthy-looking snack pots, to eat, and the outdoor tables are, in fact, treetrunks. The WiFi password is an Icelandic volcano and in the course of our visit, the sound system throw out Björk and Sigur Rós. The interior has hexagonal splashes of blue and light green, creating a very laid back, but modern, feel, augmented further by a charmingly cheerful barista.
Coffee comes from local roaster Vits der Kaffe (who also have a café listed on Best Coffee) and is skilfully handled. There's a lot to love about Café Blá, and its almost secluded location, in a residential zone south of the main city centre and on a road lined with tall trees, just adds to the sense of getting away from the hustle and bustle – a trip well worth making.
