Café Grumpy — Greenpoint
193 Meserole Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11222
Editor's Review
Having first opened its doors in what was then a rather industrial part of Greenpoint, Cafe Grumpy was one of the first spots to establish this neighborhood as a destination for coffee. Situated next to its roastery and offices, this spacious cafe has a warm atmosphere. Lighting is on the darker side to match the cafe's "grumpy" theme, but everything else about it suggests the opposite mood. With two full rooms of seating, Cafe Grumpy's exposed brick wall and orange-and-white tones fall in line tastefully with the company's bright orange mugs and coffee bags boasting whimsical coffee bean "sad faces".
Being that this is such a spacious cafe—and the only Café Grumpy with WiFi—there is a large laptop population here, and the place is quiet as a result. The cafe offers a variety of espresso drinks (which can also be served with non-dairy alternatives of oat, soy and almond) in single origin, house blend and decaf options, plus a solid set of single origins to choose from for pourovers served via Hario V60. If you're skipping out on coffee, try a cup of Rishi tea and top it off with pastries from a variety of local bakeries.
