Café Grumpy — Park Slope
383 7th Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11215
Editor's Review
Serving this busy strip of Park Slope since 2009, this Café Grumpy location is a small, utilitarian cafe which does not try to be much more than a local spot for great coffee. But when you deliver such consistent quality, isn't that enough? Grumpy sources its beans worldwide and roasts in Brooklyn, for their growing chain of cafes around the city – as well as Miami – and they sell whole beans and cold brew in many gourmet shops as well. They do feature a small pastry case with excellent baked goods from local spots including Good Batch, Colson, and Marker Coffee, including some vegan and gluten-free options, but this is not a breakfast spot. And while there are a few small bar-height tables, it's not a hangout either, and don't ask for WiFi.
It's all about the coffee, and in that department, Grumpy is always a star performer. The cold brew and brewed coffee is no joke either. Of course, they also carry a full line of Grumpy whole beans, along with some rotating gift items like shirts, plush beans, tote bags, and ceramics, so you can grab a bag – or a present – to take home for the morning.
