Café Keppler
Van der Pekstraat 1, 1031 CN Amsterdam, Netherlands
Editor's Review
Opened in June 2017, Café Keppler is one of the Dutch capital’s latest speciality coffee venues. Even more extraordinary is that it is in Noord, until rather recently somewhere mostly dyed-in-the-wool Amsterdammers lived and adventurous metropolitans might have headed for an industrial-art festival or flea market. With real estate prices driving families and expats out of central Amsterdam, however, the north-lying borough, only a few minutes by ferry from Centraal Station, is becoming more happening. Café Keppler is surely a Siren.
The business was founded by long-time roaster and barista trainer Kees Kraakman and restaurateur Mike Lubben. Kraakman schooled several of the city's most popular micro-roasters, and his coffee expertise is heralded nationwide.
The kitchen is open from morning till night, meaning all three meals are served here, alongside top-grade espresso drinks and mugs of batch brew. By local standards, the venue sprawls, offering plenty of seating inside and outside.
