Charlie's Coffee Company, whose full cafe is our editor's choice in St. Albans, started life here, or rather, wherever her cart was. That cart has now found a home at the station, a massive boon to the many commuters who live in St. Albans but travel elsewhere for work. The quality of the coffee is high, as you'd expect, and benefits from the fact that the expertise behind a 'proper' coffee shop goes into making each brew – there's none of the issues that can sometimes be found with mobile venues.

There are some breakfast options, and the toilets listed are on the platform nearby – this is, nonetheless, very much a place to pick up your first cup of the morning and head off somewhere else. For all that, though, there are definitely worse ways to start the day.
