Another café driven by stylish tiles, Civil Coffee is an aesthetic explosion of a café, from their patterned floors to the high beam ceilings, along with deep blue and marble walls and mirrored counters. You've essentially stepped inside a palace of coffee.

Civil started as a pop-up espresso catering service before its gleaming fixed spot on Figueroa Boulevard, another Highland Park main hub for hip hangs and Hispanic-owned businesses. The multi-roaster actively pursues a variety of high-end specialty roasters while sticking to Coava as its consistent espresso provider, offering a variety of both classic and sweet seasonal beverages. Specialty treats are themed with local references like "The Arroyo"—a latte with the "best darn lavender syrup you've ever had" and "The Figueroa" -- a Spanish latte served with a Maria cookie.

Civil's kitchen dishes out a hearty selection of pastries and brunch goods, offering staples every Angeleo can hop on board with, from a breakfast burrito to a stacked avocado toast. For something more personalized, try the "build your own toast" program, which provides drool-worthy toppings like whipped beet cream cheese and organic tofu scramble. The kitchen closes at two.
